MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, April 6, 2023 – Cablecast Community Media will preview its Version 7.7 software at the 2023 NAB Show next week in Las Vegas. The two new main features provide additional functionality to Cablecast Closed Captioning, including an integrated caption editor and translation capabilities. Version 7.7 will be available for new and existing Cablecast customers this summer.
Available directly in the Cablecast web interface, Cablecast Closed Captioning is an affordable, cloud-based solution for real-time and file-based captioning. Although Cablecast Closed Captioning allows users to create extremely accurate custom vocabularies, misspoken words or unspecified words such as street names can result in typos during a live event.
The new caption editor is an ideal solution for VOD programming, because it allows users to go back into the caption file once the program is complete and correct misspellings or other mistakes. Not only is the process simple, but captions remain in sync with the program, so there are no timing issues.
Another new Cablecast 7.7 feature is translation for live and file-based programming. Users will be able to create captions in Spanish, French and other languages, which will be available for broadcast, OTT and mobile audiences.
Cablecast 7.7 builds on the momentum of the Cablecast 7.6 software that was released earlier this year. Its Audience Measurement Dashboard offers advanced viewer insights, while new support for the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol provides a secure, bandwidth-efficient alternative to RTMP for transmitting and receiving programming. Also, live streams can now use Cablecast’s audio normalization processing and audio meters provide a visual representation of volume of previewed sources.
“Version 7.6 was all about helping PEG stations understand what their audiences are watching. Version 7.7 is about making that content accessible to more people,” said Steve Israelsky, president, Cablecast Community Media. “Our suite in the Westgate, which is connected to the Las Vegas Convention Center, provides a great environment at the NAB Show for prospective and existing clients to learn more about all the Cablecast features that can simplify their day-to-day operations. And for us, it’s the perfect place to have meaningful conversations so we can learn about emerging station needs and what solutions we need to provide in the future.”
Cablecast will also present the Connected Communities Summit during the 2023 NAB Show. Designed for non-commercial broadcasters, the free, two-day streaming event will discuss accessibility best practices (April 17) and IP-based video workflows (April 18) with legal professionals and industry experts. Both sessions begin at 10 a.m. PT and will be followed by a live Q&A with panelists. Attendees do not have to attend the 2023 NAB Show to register for the Connected Communities Summit.
